Mobile Mania

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=V_Ramasamy]V Ramasamy Technology development has revolutionized India, particularly in the field of communication. Internet, e-mail & mobile phones are making peoples life easier. Among this, mobile phones have become a mania in India. Here are the few actions of mobile users to support this statement. If you had keenly watched mobile users, you would have noticed that whether they receive any call or not, yet they used to take out the mobile from their pocket, switch it on and stare at the screen for a while and put it near their ear and again stare at the screen for a while before switching it off and put it back in their pocket again. I am really amazed to see the frequency of the action almost every fifteen minutes. Yes, Indian mobile users love to flaunt their mobile in the public. No mater how important you are. No matter what important matter you are discussing with the mobile user, his/her attention always drawn towards the call received in their mobile. The moment they receive the call, they never hesitate to abandon you in the middle to attend their call. Once the call is over, you have to begin your discussion from the beginning, as she/he would be in a state of trance after attending the call. Here is a lesson, if you want to be listened properly, try to talk in mobile phone next time. Employers are the happiest lot to have mobile phones as it helps them to track their employees all the time. On the other day when I was traveling in the bus, one passenger sitting next to me, a mobile in his hand, giving almost a running commentary about his journey by giving exact details of each stop, where he is now and when he would reach a particular point. I presumed that probably he might be speaking to his boss (!). Mobile users also dont have any etiquette. Once I was attending a condolence meeting. Large people gathered at a big hall. The whole atmosphere was very calm and serene. At the middle of the crowd a middle aged man who was sitting silently for a long, suddenly stood up as if he was bitten by some insect and looked around the hall in a hurry. After few seconds, he was started running to the corner of the hall. I was totally stunned to see his action. Since the meeting was on, I controlled my curiosity. Once the meeting was over I asked the person about his erratic behaviour. Without any embarrassment in his face, he told me casually that he just attended the telephone call in his mobile (!) While walking on the road, if you happened to see motorcycle riders with their head bent towards their shoulders; dont think that they are handicapped. Probably they may be attending their mobile call by holding the mobile set between their head and shoulders (!) People are in the habit of noticing you only if you have a mobile phone. If anybody asks you what is your mobile number, if you say you have only landline, he/she will stare at you as if you have come from some tribal area (!) Academic Catalogs Very Misleading

By Lance Winslow Have you ever picked up an academic catalog of classes or went to a website to see what your local college or University Offered in the way of classes? Most of us have seen these things and the classes appear to be absolutely intriguing but much of that is the fine art of public relations and marketing writing and not the reality of the class at all. It is truly amazing that this false and misleading advertising goes on in Academia, because they so often with their liberal views are so quick to point out even possible misrepresentation in the business world or even a politician who deliberately misleads his or her constituency. It seems that we have quite a hypocritical group in our colleges and universities who are willing to mislead people to get them to sign up for their schools. We seem to all believe that academia is beyond reproach yet as we observe closer they are the cause of many of our Nations ills and much of the conflicts in our civilization. It also is quite relevant to point out that much of the sound and fury incited by the mass media indeed originates in the Utopian Dreamland of Academia. But why you ask? Well it is really simple, you see those who cant so often teach, as they do not have the balls to face the music in the real world. So they retreat into academia where they are safe to complain and piss and moan about anything they see, when they simply have adopted a skewed perspective of things, which is probably why they never succeeded in the first place. But in the end they do the very thing they complain about as they cheat to hold up their decaying institutions of brain washing. Quite interesting isnt it? Consider this in 2006. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Biblical Hermeneutics - Part 1

By Saundra L. Washington Hermeneutics is the science and art of the interpretive process which begins by determining the original meaning of the Biblical text and leads to elucidation of its sense for the body of Christ today. It is concerned with the presuppositions that are brought to the interpretation of texts because it consciously or unconsciously influences conclusions drawn. Presuppositions are the philosophical or theological starting points of reference which are usually shared by someone else. It differs from prejudice in that prejudice includes more personal factors that affect the judgment of the interpreter. The problem of Biblical authority would probably be less bothersome if we were able to approach the Bible unbiasly. Unfortunately, this is not possible. Therefore, we come with our mental baggage that is packed with previous involvement with Scripture which prejudice our reaction to the periscope under consideration. The result is, oftentimes, only an interpretation that mirrors our biases. Even though it is humanly impossible to interpret presupposition-lessly, there are safeguards we can use in the interpretive process that minimizes pure subjectivity and interjecting into text our own preconceived ideas. They are: 1) Awareness of the presupposition problem. 2) Use of the historical-critical method of interpretation helps to keep theological presuppositions in check. 3) Methods must be open to constant modification by the text itself. 4) Method must be open to investigation, evaluation and so forth. 5) Presuppositions must be allowed to be shaped or discarded. Exegesis guided by rigid pre-understanding only establishes what the interpreter already knows. When Scripture is rendered supreme, the text will interpret the interpreter as the interpreter interprets the text. Interpretation therefore, necessitates dialogue with Scripture. I think very few of us are cognizant of the extent to which our responses to Scripture are conditioned by a previously chosen orientation toward the church in general and toward Scripture in particular. These orientations, apparently for purposes of identification, are grouped under certain titles. Two of the broadest and, no doubt, misunderstood classifications are liberal and conservative. The typical liberal view of the inspiration of Scripture is that the Biblical writers were inspired in somewhat the same sense as Shakespeare and other great writers. What the writers transcribed were ancient religious conceptions about God and His workings. Liberals believe that Scripture is inerrant where it speaks on soteriological matters, but that it may possess errors in historical facts and other details. The conservative view of the inspiration is that God worked through the personalities of the Biblical writers in such a way that, without suspending their personal styles of expression of freedom, what they produced was literally inspired. The emphasis of the text is that Scripture itself, as well as the authors, was inspired. Of course there are those within each camp whose view of inspiration varies from the generally accepted. Both orientations also have their own strengths and weaknesses. The strengths of the liberal position has been said to include the fact that they are not embarrassed by negative phenomena found in Scripture; no claim is made regarding Biblical inerrancy and so there is no need to deal with it; and since they do not believe texts are infallible, the do not have to be bothered with issues pertaining to canonicity of Scripture; and finally, liberals need not suspend their critical faculties when studying Scripture. The weaknesses of this position are said to be located in its tendency to dilute the inspiration and authority of Scripture in a significant way. It places overemphasis on human reason; if Biblical claims cannot be grasped by human reason, it is unacceptable. Another weakness lies in the idea of progressive revelation. Liberals believe that as man developed mentally and spiritually, later divine revelation was superior to earlier ones. Thus, religious experience becomes the foundation for deciding divine inspiration. A further difficulty with this view is that it allows room to call into question or disallow all of the miraculous in Scripture. Two outstanding strengths of the conservative view proposed are: 1) they take the Bible seriously as the only authority for life and the Christian faith; and ; 2) conservatives are serious about the actual texts of the Bible. Some of the weaknesses found in this view include: conservatives refusal to acknowledge obvious Biblical errors; the failure to see inconsistencies between any two scriptural passages; the proclivity to dislocate the true center of concern; the hermeneutical principles that guide them are extra-Biblical; and their harmonization process is flawed. Achtemeier (Contemporary Theology) proposes another view of inspiration. He sees it as being located more in the interrelationship of tradition, situation, and respondent contained in Scripture rather than located in Scripture itself or the Biblical authors. Whatever view one holds is important to hermeneutics. If we hold a liberal view of inspiration for example, it would probably be difficult, if not impossible, to not approach Scripture with the presupposition Scripture contains errors. Thus, if we encounter apparent discrepancies, we may decide that one or both of the pages involved contain mistakes. Likewise, as a conservative, we may be inclined to find an exegetically justifiable way of resolving the seeming discrepancy rather than entertain an erroneous possibility. (to be continued) Rev. Treatment - Pharmaceutical or Holistic?

By Patricia Howitt All treatment based on pharmaceutical products proceeds from the study and treatment of symptoms, categorised pretty much in isolation as evidence of separate “diseases”. Western medicine has built a vast repertory of observed symptoms, and a vast array of unnatural products tailored by chemical companies to prevent these symptoms from manifesting. We even have comparatively simple conditions, like heartburn, being labelled as “diseases” to bring them within the scope of the prescription drugs industry. The word cure is a misnomer when applied to drugs and disease. Drugs suppress symptoms, which are the body’s way of ridding itself of underlying illness. This drives the problem deeper into the tissues for the cells to cope with in some other way, which leads to big trouble at a later date. Drugs may offer a “quick fix”, but the price paid in side effects and long-term illness is enormous, affecting both quality and length of life. Published causes of death statistics are many and varied. You will never find among them a figure for the thousands of people whose lifespan and quality of life are slowly destroyed by pharmaceutical drugs. When their lives end, cause of death is simply recorded as the disease they were being treated for, or one of its side effects. What Holistic Really Means While modern western medicine excels at treating emergencies and injury, it has lost the plot completely when it comes to treating illness and disease. All disease manifestations are the result of the same basic “dis-ease” condition of the body. In reality, before the rise of drugs, many natural treatments were used successfully for centuries to set the body’s chemistry to rights. These methods were intended to restore the bodys correct pH, supply the nutrients required to correct the underlying imbalance in the body tissues, return the body to proper health, and so enable it to deal with whatever symptoms were present. The “diseases” mindset obscures the fact that all symptoms are manifestations of an underlying defective condition of the whole body caused by - Inadequate nutrition resulting in a weakened body structure (at both tissue and cellular levels) and decreased immune function; and External factors such as toxins and stress. It is true that the body has countless ways of manifesting sickness. The reason diseases seem so many and varied is because - Each body breaks down at its weakest link - and in each individual that weakest link will be determined by heredity (genetic factors) and nutrition (eating habits); Each individual experiences toxins or stresses peculiar to his or her own lifestyle (e.g. cigarette smoke, asbestos fibers, timber treatment chemicals or whatever). These toxins and stresses can produce different effects on the system. When one realises that our categorized diseases are simply varied manifestations of an imbalance in the body chemistry, it becomes easier to understand what holistic medicine and treatment is about. Body pH and Organic Nutrients Body pH is the indicator of the acid-alkaline condition of the blood. It is the most important single factor to be corrected before healing can proceed. This can be achieved in a number of ways, but primarily by avoiding acid-producing foods, correcting mineral deficiencies, and supplying the correct balance of healthy foods. The following foods are the worst culprits in producing acid reactions in the body and are the cause of much illness and disease in the western world: white flour, white sugar, common salt, soft drinks, artificial colorings and flavourings, over-consumption of red meat and animal fats, hydrogenated fats, deep-fried fats, alcohol, and cigarette smoking. Consider the average western diet and you will realise why illness and disease are rampant killers in the west, where many people’s daily food consumption comprises almost exclusively the above products. Consider also that in many third-world countries the introduction of the western diet has been followed by a rising incidence of western disease. Rebuilding and Healing The holistic approach to healing starts by avoiding all foods that produce acid conditions in the body. Many of these foods are so lacking in nutritive value that they deplete the bodys vitamins, minerals and enzymes. The body has to dig into its own store to find the elements necessary for digestion, and very often, because of the poor state of our food today, that store has reached rock bottom. In supplying what our bodies really need for the rebuilding and healing processes, the prime consideration is usability. Minerals are the bodys ground-floor building blocks and recent research now shows that mineral supplements MUST be supplied in a form the body can utilise. This is not found in pulverized rock, or in colloidal minerals. In both of these, the particle size is simply too large for our cells to utilise efficiently. The maximum our cells can derive from these sources is about 3%. The unused residue of these minerals is dumped somewhere in the system, where it adds to the burden the body is already carrying. What our cells really need is organic (i.e. angstrom sized) minerals - because these are what the body was designed to use. The organic, angstrom particle size is actually 10,000 times smaller than a micron. Minerals in plants and fruits are naturally angstrom sized, and this is the reason why so many of today’s natural plant formulations are helping people with health problems. You will notice that all of these natural products have one element in common they are not the end product of our modern agricultural systems. This is because the depleted nature of our agricultural soils can no longer provide the minerals and trace minerals our bodies need in the quality and proportions they were designed for. Without a single exception, all of these new products are derived either from the sea, or from virgin soils that still retain their life-giving nutrients. This is a huge lesson that we need to learn, and learn quickly. Unnatural chemicals are destroying our world, and they are destroying us. Depression and Society

By John Furnem Many of the people we know and meet every day have experienced some kind of depression in their lives, it is not always the clinical and sever depression that we understand to be very dangerous and naturally dramatic in life events, a lot of people experience mild and sometimes passing phases of depression. The understanding of how difficult it is to deal with depression once it hits is usually a part that is played only by those unfortunate enough to experience this mental condition, once a person realizes the effect a depression might have on a person they will immediately show great sympathy to anyone who is suffering any symptoms related to depression. In our day and age it is very common to refer to medicine in almost any case of discomfort or disease, our society nurtures the feeling that for every physical or mental condition or disorder there is a chemical answer that sets things right, and that the materialism of human nature is once that takes care of itself. The case with depression is different, not saying that depression is not treated by medicine because it has been treated with many different kind of chemical solutions for the last few decades, but there are more ways to fight and beat depression, and many of these ways are not medicine related. Many of the people who suffer depression in one part of their lives realize that this is a kind of condition that might return and hit them in later stages in life, this understanding makes depression patients seek answers that will have a significant effect throughout a long period of time. This is typical of people who suffered mild depression symptoms and overcame the depression with some psychological help and a lot of self work and efforts. Many want to keep living their life with a feeling that a non medical solution is available to keep depression from hitting again. Help for depression is widely available in most of the world, the awareness to the dangers and destructive power of depression disorders have increased the efforts to help depression patients fight this condition, from traditional therapy to many new and modern approaches to physical activity and social connections, solutions that have been showing fairly good results in many cases and encourage depression patients to keep working on depression prevention instead of relaying on the easy use of chemicals. The fact that depression can, in some mild and not clinical severe, be beaten and prevented on a regular basis using therapy and social connections, as well as physical exercise and workout routine, is very comforting for the many people who suffer mild depression around the world and that are not interested in developing any kind of dependency on chemicals and medicines for mental conditions. It is also said that the fact that depression patients are kept on a regular treatment and are aware of the reoccurring nature of depression phases is helping prevent and decrease the level of the depression frequency.
